Why the Non-Diet Approach is Your Best Choice for Health

I know that change is scary, and if you have dieted for most of your life, the non-diet approach is bloody scary to think about. Concerns about weight and health arise and I hear you and see you. I hope to help you understand why the non-diet approach is the best thing you could do for your health.

🚫 Why this myth is unhelpful:

Many people believe that if they stop dieting, they’re giving up on their health. This myth fuels fear and worry, making you feel like you need to constantly restrict yourself to be healthy. This is the message we've been bombarded with from diet culture for most of our lives.

But here's the truth: 

Dieting often leads to stress, anxiety, and guilt around food, which is far from healthy. 

Weight regain is a common side effect of dieting because restrictive approaches are never sustainable long-term and never address the underlying eating habits or causes. This induces a bounce back, either by binge eating or returning to old eating patterns, leaving you feeling out of control, frustrated and feeling like a failure (you're not by the way).

Eating as little as possible can make you tired because food = energy, it also sincreaes cravings, and makes you feel crazy about food. You might find yourself thinking about food all the time, which only adds to the stress and guilt.

If this is what it takes to lose weight for “health” - Is that truly healthy?

Talk through your concerns and fears with someone who gets it (like me!)

I understand the fear and worry that comes with letting go of dieting, especially if you’ve been doing it for most of your life. But imagine a life where you feel at peace with food, you can eat food for joy and energy without stress, and focus on overall health rather than a number on the scale.
